MOBILE, Ala. – A 39-year-old man faces multiple rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges following a lengthy Mobile Police investigation involving a minor.
Robert John Smith was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 16, after investigators located him, according to the Mobile Police Department.
The investigation began in March 2025, when officers responded to the 5600 block of Mardanne Drive in Theodore.
During the investigation, police said they determined that Smith had sexually abused a girl known to him over a period of years. Authorities did not disclose the victim’s age, her relationship to Smith or when the reported abuse began.
Smith faces three counts of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of incest. His bond was set at $355,000.
Mobile Police said no additional information would be released because of the sensitive nature of the case and the need to protect the victim’s identity.
