BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Police made 86 arrests and seized 30 firearms along with fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs during a week of enforcement operations across the city.
The department’s Special Operations Bureau reported the activity occurred from Sept. 7 through Sept. 13 as Special Enforcement Teams conducted operations targeting violent crime, firearms and narcotics activity.
Of the 86 arrests, 44 involved felony charges and 42 involved misdemeanor charges, according to police. The department did not release the names of those arrested or a breakdown of the individual charges.
Officers seized 30 firearms during the operations. Police reported that none of the guns had been reported stolen or identified as altered.
Drug seizures included 28.6 grams of fentanyl, 75 grams of crack cocaine, 18.43 grams of cocaine and 14 grams of methamphetamine. Officers also seized 1,036.74 grams, or about 2.3 pounds, of marijuana.
Police reported seizing 324 ecstasy pills along with 2.73 grams of the drug, as well as quantities of hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol, Xanax, clonazepam, codeine syrup and hydrochlorothiazide.
The enforcement teams conducted 24 traffic stops and issued 377 traffic citations, including 65 for speeding. Eleven vehicles were impounded, with none reported as stolen.
The Special Operations Bureau also recorded 181 citizen contacts during the week.
Birmingham Police did not provide details about specific operations or indicate how many separate investigations resulted in the arrests and seizures.
