BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 42-year-old Pinson man is behind bars in Jefferson County facing a $2.62 million bond after turning himself in to face 10 felony warrants accusing him of severe sexual crimes against a child.
Michael Andrew Dewoody surrendered to law enforcement on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, following a search by detectives and multiple sheriff’s department units. He remains held in the Birmingham division of the Jefferson County Jail.
Warrants Secured Following Child Exploitation Probe
The criminal investigation was spearheaded by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Following a multi-week probe, detectives obtained 10 separate felony warrants against Dewoody on June 17, 2026, prompting a coordinated search for his whereabouts.
Knowing he was actively sought by deputies, Dewoody turned himself in later that evening and was processed into the county jail system at approximately 7:10 PM.
The sweeping charges include severe capital-level crimes, highlighting the extreme nature of the allegations:
- Sexual Torture (Victim under 12 years old)
- Rape (1st Degree) — Two Counts
- Sodomy (1st Degree) — Two Counts
- Rape (2nd Degree)
- Sodomy (2nd Degree)
- Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12
- Sexual Abuse (1st Degree)
- Sexual Abuse (2nd Degree)
Denied Bail Under Aniah’s Law
For the most severe counts, including Sexual Torture, First-Degree Rape, and First-Degree Sodomy, Dewoody is being held without bond under the provisions of Aniah’s Law.
Approved by Alabama voters, Aniah’s Law allows judges to deny bail to individuals accused of high-severity, violent Class A felonies if the state demonstrates that the suspect poses a significant threat to the community or victims. For the lesser secondary charges, a combined bail amount was configured at $105,000, bringing his overall financial bond structure to $2,620,000.
