Montgomery Launches SEED Academy to Empower Emerging Real Estate Developers

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – The City of Montgomery has announced the launch of the Supporting Empowered Emerging Developers (SEED) Academy, a new program aimed at strengthening housing, economic mobility, and small business growth by equipping emerging developers with the skills and resources they need to succeed.

Developed in partnership with Grow America, a nationally recognized nonprofit, SEED Academy will provide up to 25 participants with a week-long, hands-on program combining classroom instruction, technical assistance, and real-world application.

“Housing is the foundation,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “By preparing our housing stock as the first line of defense against climate risks, and as a pathway to build wealth, we are investing in people and places that can thrive. SEED Academy is a direct response to that vision.”

Program Features Include:

  • Pre-Academy Groundwork: Landscape survey, steering committee formation, and participant selection
  • Core Instruction & Capstone Project: Training aligned with Montgomery’s housing and development priorities
  • Post-Academy Technical Assistance: Continued support to help participants launch and scale projects

City leaders say SEED Academy will help advance priorities such as housing security, climate resilience, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development.

Applications opened September 2, 2025, and interested participants can learn more or apply at MGMSeedAcademy.com.
