FOLEY, Ala. — A Foley man has been charged with murder after investigators say he fatally shot his cousin during a dispute at a residence in Baldwin County.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the evening of June 22 to a home on Mannich Lane following reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found 55-year-old Robert Keith Barlow suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Deputies immediately provided medical aid before Barlow was transported to Baldwin Health Medical Facility in Foley. He later died from his injuries.
Investigators detained 42-year-old Joseph Lee Smith at the scene while detectives interviewed witnesses and processed evidence.
The investigation determined that Smith and Barlow, who were cousins, had been involved in a dispute before the shooting.
According to investigators, Smith fired a shotgun during the confrontation, striking Barlow.
Smith was arrested and charged with Murder. He was transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center, where he remains in custody.
