DOTHAN, Ala. — A juvenile has been charged as an adult after allegedly shooting another teenager while the pair were recording an amateur music video using a loaded firearm as a prop.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 24 to a residence in the 400 block of Donna Drive after receiving reports of a person who had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found a teenager under the age of 18 suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers immediately provided emergency medical care until Dothan Fire Department paramedics arrived and assumed treatment. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to be transferred to another medical facility for additional treatment. Police said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
As investigators processed the scene, they learned the victim and another juvenile had been filming an amateur music video that involved using a real, loaded firearm as a prop.
According to police, the firearm discharged during the recording, striking the victim in the chest.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting but was later located at an apartment complex on South Ussery Street, where officers arrested the juvenile without incident.
The suspect has been charged as an adult with First-Degree Assault and booked into jail.
Because of Alabama’s juvenile privacy laws, the Dothan Police Department has not released the suspect’s identity.
The investigation remains ongoing.
