PHENIX CITY, Ala. – An Alabama woman has been charged after investigators say she allowed underage drinking during a house party that later became the scene of a fatal shooting.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call on July 11 reporting a shooting in the 800 block of Lee Road 197 that resulted in a homicide.
During the investigation, detectives determined that 40-year-old Amber Holly Mott was hosting an open house party at her residence and had allegedly allowed multiple people under the age of 21 to consume shots of liquor inside the home.
Based on the investigation, Mott was arrested on July 28 and charged with Open House Party, a Class B misdemeanor under Alabama law.
She was booked into the Lee County Detention Center, posted a $1,000 bond and has since been released.
The Sheriff’s Office said additional criminal charges are expected as the homicide investigation continues.
“The circumstances that led to this arrest are clear,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “If an adult knowingly allows or provides an opportunity for underage individuals to consume alcohol, they are breaking the law. Adults should provide positive guidance for our young people to be successful in life, not put them at risk.”
Authorities have not released additional details about the homicide or explained how it is connected to the underage drinking investigation.
