Montgomery Man Charged With Capital Murder in Death of 2-Year-Old Boy

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A Montgomery man has been charged with capital murder more than four months after a 2-year-old boy died from injuries investigators say were caused by blunt force trauma.

According to the Montgomery Police Department, 26-year-old Ashico Kendale Wells was arrested and charged with Capital Murder in connection with the death of 2-year-old Robert Webster-Lewis.

The investigation began on Feb. 16, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., when officers responded to a local hospital after an unresponsive child was brought in for emergency treatment.

Despite life-saving efforts, Robert Webster-Lewis died from his injuries.

Investigators determined the child suffered blunt force trauma. According to court documents, the toddler was struck multiple times in the torso.

Court records allege that at the time of the incident, Webster-Lewis and his 7-year-old brother were under Wells’ supervision. Investigators said Wells was the boyfriend of the children’s mother.

Police said the alleged assault occurred in the 1900 block of Stratford Downs in Montgomery.

Wells was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility on June 24.

The investigation remains ongoing.
