Opelika, AL – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Brian Scott Barrett, 53, of Opelika, on multiple felony charges stemming from a years-long pattern of sexual, physical, and mental abuse against his wife.
The investigation began on February 17, 2026, following a report of ongoing domestic abuse. Detectives gathered evidence showing the abuse had continued for several years at a residence on Lee Road 414 in the Beauregard community of Opelika.
Warrants were obtained charging Barrett with:
- One count of Rape in the First Degree
- One count of Sodomy in the First Degree
- One count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree
- One count of Domestic Violence in the 3rd Degree
On February 24, 2026, Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigators traveled to Lanett, Alabama, where Barrett was employed, and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Lee County Detention Center.
Following an Aniah’s Law hearing, Barrett posted a $120,000 bond and was released from custody on February 26, 2026. The case is pending.
