DOTHAN, Ala. — A 24-year-old Ozark woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say a marijuana transaction escalated into gunfire that left a woman wounded and endangered multiple people.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers responded just after 10 p.m. on June 12, 2026, to reports of a shooting at a business in the 3700 block of South Park Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Officers immediately rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.
Investigators determined the victim and two other individuals had arranged to meet another group to purchase marijuana.
Police said an argument broke out when payment for the drugs took longer than expected. During the dispute, authorities allege that 24-year-old Peyton Ann Kroger of Ozark pulled out a firearm and began shooting.
According to investigators, one of the rounds struck a nearby business while members of the group attempted to flee.
After the victims entered a vehicle to leave the area, Kroger allegedly approached the vehicle and fired additional shots.
One of those rounds struck the female victim in the upper chest.
The victims drove from the scene and stopped near the roundabout at Campbellton Road and Taylor Road, where they waited for responding officers.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and later released the same night.
During the investigation, officers located Kroger and took her into custody without incident.
Kroger has been charged with one count of First-Degree Assault, two counts of Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle, and one count of Shooting Into an Occupied Building.
She was booked into the Houston County Jail, where she is being held without bond.
